All of these shots were taken when we were getting introduced to the red heads and i really like them. They were taken on a digital SLR and they all came out really sharp. I was not only happy with the technical quality of them i was happy with the expressions i managed to capture. I managed to capture both moody and very happy sides of Paul and Dave. Really like these, remind me of good times.

FINCH & PHUNG VIDEOS

These vieos were so much fun to make, recorded in Pauls room whilst drinking before going out were supposed to be some weak attempt at Identity pieces linked to our Identity project. I still like them though, i think we were pretty influenced by the video project that was running at the same time and the fact that we were going to the cinema about once a week. I think we were well into French music at the time as well, strange!

LONG EXPOSURES & PHOTOSHOP

These photos here were taken on a Canon 30D with a 10-22 lens. All have been edited using photoshop. The first are more heavily edited than the rest as i have used a layering process. I am still getting used to using photoshop as i had never used until i got to Leeds. Despite that i am quite happy with the outcome of these layered images. I especially like the one of me layered with a shot of Leeds at night, i was going for quite a dark look by only really showing my eyes in the shadow of my baseball cap, the flash whited out the rest of me and i think this is very effective. The shot below this was taken at the
German market at night on the way back from college one night. I put the shutter speed to bulb and the apeture to about 4.5 and just guest the exposure time, i think it came out pretty well. Once i got home i turned all the lights off in my kitchen and took a shot over leeds with the shutter speed set to bulb and shook the camera about to create loads of lines of light, this is the image layered on top of the merrygoround. I didn't bring the image through too strong because i didn't want it to dominate the merrygoround.
The next shot was also taken at the German market again with the shutter speed set to bulb. I rested it on the railings that you can see in the image so i didn't get any camera shake. The only rendering i did to this image was in the curves adjustments on photoshop to accentuate the colours. Whilst on the way home i looked at this image and thought that the railings resembled two lanes of a motorway. On my route home from the college i have to walk over a bridge that goes over one of the main roads into the town centre so i thought i would try and recreate this image from the bridge.
I placed the camera on the edge of the bridge and and started shooting some bulb shots. I tried a number of apetures until i got a shot i was happy with then touched them up with photoshop curves. I was really happy with the outcome, i think the use of long exposure with the lights of the cars has a lot of similarities with the lights reflected on the railings in the previous image.
As for the shot of the library i just liked the lines and the colours.

These pictures here are just some general photos taken around Leeds when I took out the medium format camera. There were some better photos taken but half the film did not process correctly due to a falty wind on mechanism. I did shoot a film before this one but it did not process as i put the film in the camera the wrong way round. Despite the fact I think there were better shots on this film than ones i have displayed I am actually quite happy with how these prints came out, but most of all it was just nice to be back in the dark room. All of these photos were taken on an Ilford 400 ISO B&W film, light readings were taken with an additional light meter and were all shot 'sans' tripod.
I also experimented with the shot at the top on the right. I enlarged it from a standard 10by8 print to one spread over 4 10by8's thus creating a large 4 piece jigsaw. Having never printed any larger than 10by8 before i realised when increasing the size of a print certain factors change in the printing process. I had to extend the exposure time from 15 seconds to 25 seconds and also increase the grade from 3.5 to just over 4.5 to create the tones i had in the 10by8 print.

JONNY'S FIRST DIGITAL SLR

For these shots i took out a Canon 30D slr with a fish eye lens. I did this for two reasons, one i have never really used a digital slr except when we got to play around with them in class, and two because i have never used a fish eye lens. I am very glad i did this as i feel a lot more confident using a digital slr now mainly due to the fact that i got to play around with it in my own time and see what does what.
I wanted to try and link the shots to my identity project whilst also experimenting with a new piece of kit. So whilst sitting in my room late at night/early in the morning I set the shutter speed to bulb, set the flash to a low setting and put the appature to 4.5. The reason for doing this was that if i held the shutter open and moved about it should create a number of me's. The reason for the flash being low was so that it would capture one strong image of me but it wouldn't be too bright and then any aditional movement thereafter would creat a blurred/(Jackson5esque 'can you feel it') effect. I think it worked quite well so i then went on to play around with my lighter and write stuff with it whilst the shutter was open. This started off just as a bit of fun, but I am now thinking that i would like to use this technique in the final flip book as i think it is quite an interesting way of including text in a photo.
As for the picture at the bottom of the construction site, well I thought it would just make a good photo. But if you want a link to identity then I guess an individual cannot have a true stable identity if that individual does not have solid foundations within themselves!

IDENTITY

This is what i would like to do for my final shot in the identity project. The idea is to have the top section americanised and the middle section traditionally British. As for the lower section i am not sure yet.
The reason behind this is that my idea is based on observations of other peoples identity not my own. One observation I made was a fixation that some people have with the American lifestyle (American Dream) even though their roots and background are firmly in the UK.
I like the of idea of having a flag run through background but changing between the American flag and Union Jack.
